BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – HUNDREDS of people turned out last Saturday evening (Apr. 12) at Fig Tree for the Sandy Point community group’s [SPIRIT] official opening of this year’s Black San Bang-a-Lang.

The opening ceremony followed the 2014 Tractorcade Parade which saw hundreds of famers and people dressed in their farm attire parading through the streets of Sandy Point.

A well-choreographed dance by a group of young women and several villagers giving brief explanations about the different aspects of the community festival were just some of the many items on display.

The opening also saw the sassy introduction of the six beauties who will be vying for next Sunday’s title of Lime Miss Black San 2014; a title currently held by Patricia Clarke of Saddlers Village.

There was also a performance by Mainy, who sang the official theme song for Black San 2014.

As tradition would have it, at the end of the ceremony, several lanterns were lit by a number of attendees and sent in the sky, as they were asked to make a wish.
