BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWENTY seniors from the town of Sandy Point were on Sunday (Apr. 13) given an island tour, a lunch and a much deserved period of relaxation at the Scenic View Railway as part of Senior Appreciation Day 2014.
The seniors day out was organised by committee members of the town’s community group, SPIRIT, to commemorate the fourth annual Black San Senior Appreciation Day.
According to committee member Tessa Wyatt, the event, which is always sponsored by Ram’s Supermarket, is to basically highlight and show appreciation to the senior citizens of the town who made various contributions to Sandy Point.
“This year we went around the town and we asked the seniors if they wanted to be a part of the tour. So we got together a few of them and today (Sunday) we had a great time with them,” Wyatt told SKNVibes Entertainment.
She added that many of the seniors, some of whom had not been to certain areas on the island in decades, were enthralled by the way St. Kitts has developed from their time to now.
“We also learned a lot from them. As we were driving along they pointed out a few key areas that had some significant value to the Federation in the earlier days. So it was an eye opener for us too.”
After a full day of touring, the seniors assembled at the Scenic Railway where they were each handed a grocery bag filled with an assortment of food items and medicine, compliments Ram’s Supermarket.
“I really had a fun time today (Sunday)! We went all around the country and I saw some of the places I haven’t seen in years…I want to thank the committee for doing this for us,” one senior said when asked about her day’s experience.
