BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IN a one-sided encounter, the Irep Challengers Exodus Basketball Club were yesterday (Apr. 15) crowned Champions of the 2014 Fruta Black San' Basketball tournament after defeating the Cayon Lions 82-52.

With a mixture of stifling defence and a killer instinct on the offensive end, Challenger Exodus ran away with the title seemingly without a roar from the Cayon Lions.

Challengers’ suffocating defence was displayed when they restricted the Cayon team to a mere six points in the first quarter of the game. They used their strong defensive tactics to create easy opportunities on the offensive end.

The second quarter followed in a similar vein as Challengers looked the hungrier of the teams in search of the title, ending the first half with a lead of 25 (45-20).

The second half saw Cayon trying to mount a challenge early in the third quarter, but the continued suffocation and pinpoint three-point prowess of Challengers thwarted any sort of a comeback and trounced Cayon by 30 points.

Leading the charge for Challengers was the experienced Shawn Forbes who had 21points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, while Cayon’s Clayton Powell had 25 points and five assists.

Forbes was named the Tournament’s MVP and voted Player with the Most Assists and Steals as well as being tied with teammate Delvin Marshall for Most Blocks.

Marshall won the Most Rebounds Award while Cayon’s Clayton Powell was declared the Leading Scorer.

Participating teams in the tournament were Irep Challengers Exodus, Black San' select team, Cayon Lions and Newtown Ghetto Roots.
