Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 16, 2014 (SKNIS) -- Unconditional love in families will be fostered when Minister responsible for Community Development, Hon. Marcella Liburd hosts her seventh annual Family Fun Day under the theme ‘Family and Love’.
The event introduced in 2008, will be held at The Gardens playing field in Irish Town, on Friday April 18, 2014.
Promoter for the event, Nisharma Rattan-Mack, pointed out that from 2008, the Ministry followed the concept of having Stronger Families, Safer Communities and this is the direction that they will continue to follow.
“There will be many fun and exciting activities to look forward to on Good Friday,” she stated. “It is also an opportunity to spend quality time with family and community members in a more social setting.”
She further mentioned that on Good Friday, persons attending this event will get a sense of what is happening in the community, as various groups gather together to share in the fun and interact with each other.
Nisharma Rattan-Mack explained why persons should participate.
“People should look forward to the mother and daughter, father and son races, egg hunts for children and the kite flying,” she said. “The kite flying is a traditional activity associated with Easter and this year, the number of kites will be increased so as to cater for every child present.”
Traditional foods will be on sale and vendors are also invited to sell their products. A number of competitive events will be held and prizes will be awarded.
It is understood that the Family Fun Day is an event where friends, family members and the general public can gather together to mark the start of Easter and join in the fun activities.
The fun day is slated to begin at 11 a.m. and finishes at 8 p.m. Everyone is invited to share in the fun, as the community comes to life.
