By: Jenise Ferlance-Isaac, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AN employee and a manager of Christophe Harbour were on Thursday, March 27 presented with certificates and other goodies and named Employee and Manager of the Quarter for the first portion of 2014.

Gregory Matthew and Vikiesh Pickering have respectively won the company's Employee of the Quarter and Manager of the Quarter for January to March 2014.

The duo was presented with a certificate, a US$100 voucher and dinner for two at any Christophe Harbour restaurant.

In an interview with the winners on Wednesday (Apr. 9), both of them had nothing but praise and great feedback for their place of employment.

They both expressed their love for the job and how grateful they are to have won the awards.

Matthew, who has been employed with the company for over two years, stated that this is the first time that he has ever won such an award.

The Employee of the Quarter said although he is exceedingly happy, he was not shocked at being winner of the award because he is aware of his great personality and is excited to know it is being recognised.

"I know I am a good person and I work around good people," he added.

Commenting on Matthew’s personality, Pickering said his award was overdue and expressed that he is one who always ensures a smile is on everyone's face.

"It could be a guest or a colleague...once you cross his path you will have a smile on your face. He just lights up your day. He is generally a great person and it is not just for the job; that is just the way he is. He deserves this," she said.

Speaking of herself, Pickering disclosed that this was not her first time winning such an award. She has been with the company for over six years and was presented with Employee of the Quarter in 2010.

She revealed that this was the first award being presented for the Manager of the Quarter and was delighted to have been the one chosen.

"When you do what you do as unto the Lord, it pays off. Your reward may not come at the time you want it to or even the way you want it to, but, nevertheless, you will be rewarded," she said.

Both winners thanked the management and staff of Christophe Harbour for their support and the recognition given to the work they do.

Christophe Harbour's Director of Human Resources Laurajoy Alcindor explained the criteria for winning the award.

Alcindor explained that the company's All A We Committee, which is a staff focus group designed to encourage and implement the staff’s perspective into the management, internal events and other activities of Christophe Harbour, comes together to discuss and choose the finalists.

These finalists would then be scored based on the company's “Family Values” which include key attributes that will help build the Christophe Harbour team: being responsible, being leaders, respectful, fun, sharp, knowing safety and security and doing team work.

The winners are then announced and presented with their awards at the Quarterly All Staff Meetings. They are also highlighted in the company's internal magazine dubbed The Skoop.

She expressed that the company’s focus is on building these family values and the awards, which began in 2009, are given to recognise the employees and managers for their hard work and dedication to the job.
