BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE young pregnant female fingered in the Port Zante’s Marina drug bust was formally charged with Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply and is currently on bail.

The Nevisian woman, Evelyn Nisbett, a former teacher of Charlestown Secondary School now a student at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, was charged with the offences one day after her alleged accomplices were slapped with similar charges and their pictures and addresses released to the media.

Members of the public were enraged and questioned why she was not charged along with the men and her name and picture not released.

However, speaking with this publication, Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David explained that while the men were charged and mug shots taken the night after the drug bust, Nisbett was still being processed.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Apr. 9) when a vehicle that Nisbett allegedly drove had dropped off a box to the Nevisian Spirit, a vessel owned by the Four Seasons Resort on Nevis.

The Nevisian Spirit was at the time docked at the Port Zante’s Marina and, according to Inspector David, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Customs and Excise Department boarded the vessel and a search of the box realised two bails of compressed marijuana.

The PRO told media representatives that the joint operation was based on “information received and intelligence”.

He added that the driver of the vehicle was unable to leave the area after the delivery and was intercepted and subsequently arrested.

The others charged with the offences are: Wasim Richards of Ramsbury, Jermaine Pemberton of New Castle, Kemroy Simmonds of Hermitage Village, Robert Gregory Roberts of Stoney Grove, all of Nevis and Damion Jeffers of Pond’s Pasture, St. Kitts.

The six accused had appeared before a City Magistrate on Friday (Apr. 11) and were each granted bail to the tune of $250 000 with two sureties.

A police communiqué stated that Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘GG’ Walwyn “takes this opportunity to thank all those persons who were involved in this operation for the role played, and encourage all civic minded individuals to continue to support the Law Enforcement Bodies in the discharge of their duties by reporting criminal activities, and suspicious activities and persons to the authorities”.
