SPBS Breakfast in the Bronx, NY

    SPBS NY, April 22nd, 2014  --  A large crowd of St.Kitts-Nevis Nationals and other Caribbean folks living in the New York area and the surrounding states, turned out on Saturday 19th April 2014, a warm spring day, for “A Caribbean Taste of Easter Breakfast”, sponsored by the Sandy Point Benevolent Society, Inc (SPBS). This was the 3rd Anniversary of the “breakfast” that was being held by the Society to raise funds to support worthy the needs and aspiration of less fortunate in Sandy Point Community, the hometown of the group.

     

    The breakfast was held at the Mount Carmel Pentecostal Church Hall at 3080 White Plains Road, in the Bronx, New York. 

    The opening remarks was led by the Vice President of the Society, Vincent Hodge, a former Principal of the Sandy Point High School, who travelled from Maryland to make the event the success it was.  

    The opening prayer was led by Mr. Randolph Wyatt, a native Sandy Pointer. 

    The breakfast was full of traditional Caribbean Easter dishes, including the favorite Ackee and Salt Fish, Johnny Cakes and Black Pudding. Other popular dishes included Mackerel, dumpling, souse, and Bullfoot soup. Traditional drinks were also on display, Sorrel, Lemonade, Ginger Beer, Mauby, Mint grass tea and Sweet Marjoram Mint Tea. 

    The event was also graced by the presence of the current calypso King of St.Kitts, Hansell “Richie”Buntin, who is also a member of the Society. DJ Nigel provided light entertainment for the event. 

    According to a knowledgeable source, this was the largest turn out for the breakfast event over the last 3 years. 

    The event came to a close just after midday with a short thank you message from the President of the Association, Mervyn Richardson. 
     
    Plans are now afoot for the next year year’s breakfast event, 2015.
