Lindsay Grant Decries Backlog in Justice System

Press Release

April 23rd 2014 - Attorney  Lindsay Grant is calling for reform in the Criminal Justice System in St.Kitts-Nevis  which will allow for fair trials in a reasonable time.

Grant, the  former St.Kitts-Nevis Opposition Party People’s Action Movement Leader is making the appeal mainly on behalf of the hundreds of young men who he feels too often find themselves trapped in the justice system for upwards of a year before receiving trial.

In an interview with WINN FM News Senior Reporter Ken Richards the Popular St.Kitts-Nevis Opposition Alliance Team UNITY Candidate, Grant, lamented the fact that hundreds of young men are being incarcerated for over a year without a trial.

"We have hundreds of young men being incarcerated, being on remand for over a year. Not having a trial. That's a serious problem, because that goes to the root of our system...of democracy...How can you have persons in the prison, on remand for over a year without a trial, and if that research is done you will recognize that there are a number of person in there now, at the hands of the justice system not being able to...be afforded a fair trial in a reasonable time," Grant told WINN FM’’s Ken Richards
