Senior Club Enjoys ‘Spiritual Sail’ On Party Boat

Press Release

Basseterre, April 24th 2014 - WHILE OTHERS were enjoying land-based pleasures on the beaches and other island venues, the Moravian Senior Club members, their families and friends set out to sea on Easter Monday, and had their picnic fun while cruising the coastal waters on the St. Kitts Party Boat.

The Moravian Senior Club, which has now become quite ecumenical, seizes opportunities to socialize and savour what St. Kitts has to offer.

Members have toured on the Scenic Railway, picnicked each year on Easter Monday at different venues, and earlier this year some members have even sauntered out on a Royal Caribbean Cruise – to discover or rediscover five island neighbours.

On Barbados, Antigua and St. Croix, members were hosted and entertained by their sister Moravian Churches, while in St. Lucia and St. Martin they took advantage of the shopping opportunities those islands offered.

This Easter Monday, taking a Coastal Cruise on the St. Kitts Party Boat - The Prince Devonte J – was a popular choice, and soon they had outsold the minimum 100 tickets they had and went well beyond that. But since the boat has a capacity of 350, the feeling was... “Well, the more the merrier!”

Hence a crowd of nearly 200 persons happily boarded the Party Boat on Easter Monday morning, eager to spend four hours cruising the St. Kitts coastline and experiencing the ‘Prince Devonte  J’ Party Boat  as well.

The age range was wide – from pre-teens to senior citizens and one senior citizen was actually a centenarian – Mrs. Louise Isaac of Cayon...but the smiles on faces of the grandchildren, children, mothers, fathers and grandparents all expressed the same feeling... eager anticipation; all were happy to be there.  The ‘younger’ ones soon climbed the stairs to the upper deck to get an unencumbered view of their surroundings.

The Cruise began with a powerful prayer asking for God’s protection... and after seeing the very ample life jackets and the demonstration which assured all that they would be kept afloat from the neck up in the very unlikely event that this flat bottomed boat could keel over, the cruisers settled down to enjoy the cruise and the company.

Soon cameras were snapping up the scenic beauty of the coastline and eyes bulged as many had never seen St. Kitts from this angle. They were unaware of many new structures seen along the coast and were grateful that Coordinator Sister Clarita (Richards) acted as a tour guide and was able, with the help of the mike, to point out many landmarks as the boat hugged the coast from Basseterre going towards Sandy Point.

Just before reaching Sandy Point, the boat turned around, sailed up to the Peninsular and then hugged the coast again coming down to Basseterre.

There was a spirit of camaraderie on the boat. During lunchtime, members shared the drinks and lunches they brought and the bar on board catered to needs not met by the hampers.

A great deal of enjoyment of the trip came from the music coming from an admirable sound system on the Party Boat. Sensitive to the needs of this special group, the hosts played very lively gospel songs...so lively that a large percentage of the group took to their feet and by the time the boat came ashore it was rocking with gospel feet dancing with righteous joy!

Kudos must go to Mr Elroy Jeffers, owner/manager, and his staff for their helpfulness and courtesy throughout the trip. It was noticeable how much care they took in ensuring that the senior citizens got on and off the boat comfortably.

Well done, Senior Club for providing enjoyment for so many. The Prince Devonte J Party Boat Cruise was certainly a good choice as all proclaimed what an enjoyable time they had!
