BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 24th 2014 (TUCOM)  --  More and more men and women of conscience are speaking out about the unlawful and sad situation in St Kitts and Nevis where the Motion of No Confidence filed 16 months ago against the illegitimate Douglas regime is being frustrated by the Speaker of the National Assembly and Douglas cabal.

The most recent condemnation of the Douglas regime came from Tortola, British Virgin Islands where the Public Relations Officer of a new political party, the People Empowerment Party, Lorrie Rhymer cried shame on the leaders of the British Virgin Islands and wider Caribbean Region for their silence in what he saw as an ongoing constitutional crisis in St Kitts and Nevis. Rhymer went on to label this situation as a Caribbean shame.

Rhymer’s condemnation has increasedthe number of regional figures who have condemned the constitutional mockery taking place inSt Kitts and Nevis. Regional personalities have gone public urging a resolution of the constitutional crisis In St Kitts and Nevis. Who since the picketing of the CARICOM heads meeting in St Vincent on March 10th2014. The first wasthe Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr the Hon Keith Mitchell who broke ranks with Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalvez of St Vincentand called foran urgent debate of the Motion of No Confidence or fresh elections to resolve the wrongs in St Kitts and Nevis.

Next Allan Chastanet, Leader of United Workers Party in St Lucia, condemned the recklessness of the Douglas regime in its failure to hold adebate on the Motion of No confidence.Former Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Hon James Mitchellexpressed his deep concern regarding the aberration in St Kitts and Nevis with the long delay in the tabling and voting on the Motion of No Confidence. Now the British Virgin Islanders are speaking out. What is clear is that more and more people in the region are concerned over the subversion of democracy in St Kitts and Nevis.

Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, Leader of Team Unity has thanked Mr. Lorrie Rhymer for his courageous intervention on the matter. In a letter to Mr. Rhymer, Dr Harris said “when this dark chapter of the subversion of democracy by the illegitimate Douglas regime is written, your name will be among the illustrious and courageous men and women, who saw the creeping dictatorship in St Kitts and Nevis, and had the courage to publicly condemn it for the ignominy and shame that it represented. On behalf of all the people of St Kitts and Nevis I thank you”.

I am pleased to let you know that among the many prominent Caribbean personalities who have spoken out against the government holding the Motion of No Confidence in abeyance. These include: Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell of Grenada, Former Prime Ministers Hon Arhnim Eustace of St Vincent and the Grenadinesand , Hon James Mitchell, Former Prime Minister Hon Lester Bird OF Antigua and Barbuda, Former Chief Justice of OECS Appeal Court, Sir Brian Alleyne, Speaker of National Assembly In Antigua and Barbuda Hon Giselle Isaac, Former Speaker Of House Of Representative in Jamaica, Hon Delroy Chuck, Allan Chastnet, Leader of the United Workers Party, St Lucia and the leaders of our(St Kitts and Nevis) Christian Council , Evangelical Association, Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Bar Council.

“We pray that this dangerous precedent and Parliamentary aberration will not find footing in any CARICOM nor OECS member states. The strong progressive voices condemning this anomaly imposed on St Kitts and Nevis by a delusional, desperate megalomaniac leader, give us hope that the travesty in St Kitts and Nevis’its parliamentary democracy will be an isolated though indelible stain on CARICOM’s democracy.

We take hope and encouragement from the enlightened voices of reason like yours. We take hope in our certain knowledge that injustice cannot triumph for long. We are heartened by our people’s resilient nature and the certain knowledge that the Douglas illegitimate regime is on its way out,” said Team Unity Leader, Dr Harris in his letter to Mr. Rhymer.
