Sandy Point celebrates its first and largest T-shirt Mas

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – HUNDREDS of hyped and thrilled revellers last Saturday (Apr. 26) took to the streets of Sandy Point to celebrate the town’s Fourth Annual Black San Parade Day/ Las Lap and the launch of the first-ever T-shirt Mas.

In a previous interview with an official from the Sandy Point SPIRIT Committee, it was revealed that for the first time in the history of the celebration there would be a T-shirt Mas.

The official disclosed that the decision was made to cut the cost and burden of having patrons purchasing expensive full-body costumes. “We are doing things differently this year to basically boast participation for all events.”

Off to a late start, the parade commenced with the revellers dressed in their green, blue and red full-body full body costumes and were led by the Kollision Band, as they slowly moved through the streets of Sandy Point pulling in more patrons to participate.

The parade was also graced with the presence of the undeniably beautiful Lime Miss Black San Desiree Herbert and First Runner-up Sandy Point native Royisha Demming.

However, to the far end of the parade, hundreds of jammers dressed in black and white T-shirts, with what seemed to be a redesigned flag of St. Kitts and Nevis and the words “#Point Made”, jammed to both local and regional music.

The T-shirts were made in two different designs.

As the revellers moved through the town, many more patrons in T-shirts join the parade, which eventually resulted in the closure of the main access road. And due to traffic build-up, vehicles were pointed to another direction.

On Sunday (May 4), the final curtain will come down on the community festival with its signature event, The Black Ball, which will this year be a charitable occasion aimed at raising awareness about Domestic Violence in the Federation, and all proceeds will be donated to charity.
