BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WHILE they still await positive responses from the medical institutions overseas and a quotation on costs, the family of 11-year-old Vernel Thomas would like to publicly thank the many persons who have so far given donation to aid in the removal of the child's tumour.

Thomas' aunt and guardian Mercia Flanders stated that words could never express how grateful the family is for the contributions.

"My family and I would like to say thanks to all who have contributed so far. I cannot call everyone's name but it has been a blessing from the public. We would like the public to continue praying for Vernel and our family while God continues to shower His blessings on us and you," she expressed.

Thomas' family has been and is still seeking financial assistance from the public to have the child sent overseas to remove a tumour growing on the left side of her face.

Flanders explained to SKNVibes that a bump on Thomas' face was first noticed in November last year and after the child was taken to see a number of dentists on both St. Kitts and Nevis and after a tooth extraction, X-rays, surgery and other tests, the root problem still could not be found.

The aunt further explained that after having a CT scan done in Antigua, which was recommended by Dr. Wilkinson, and a biopsy upon Thomas' return to the Federation, it was discovered that the swelling was a tumour.

She indicated that Paediatrician Dr. Jacobs is working diligently alongside the family in trying to get an overseas clinic to accept the case, and they have so far gotten responses from Panama and New Orleans but still awaiting word as to which of the two clinics would accept Thomas for treatment.

Financially, Flanders disclosed that the family is still awaiting an official quotation but was informed that costs might be over US$30 000.

The family is appealing to the public to assist in any way possible, noting that any form of help, no matter how small, would go a long way in aiding the removal of Thomas' tumour.

An account was opened at the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank. The account number is 102 57423 and is under the name Mercia Flanders who can be contacted at (869) 665-0103 and any form of assistance is welcomed.
