Health issue erupts at another school in St. Kitts

Two of the circulating photos

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WHILE the Ministries of Health and Education are working tirelessly to rectify the health issues at the Basseterre High School, another school may be experiencing an issue of its own.

Yesterday (May. 1) information was being circulated in emails and social media regarding another issue that may soon be a crisis at the Beach Allen Primary School.

The article, which was attached with photos, entitled "Major Health Hazard Discovered at another Government School on St. Kitts", spoke of "raw sewage exposed from an open septic tank or sewer".

SKNVibes visited the school yesterday and spoke with the Principal who, upon hearing the reason for the visit, immediately went into 'defence mode' and stated, among a host of other comments, that the school, like any other place, has problems which are being addressed.

She made several jabs at this publication before stating that whoever took the photos that have been circulating "trespassed" on the school's compound and "did whatever they did to create a problem for their benefit" and she "would not be indulging in that".

She however did not answer the question of whether or not the rumour of a sewage problem existed at the school, but instead made mention of a few repairs being done and asked if "SKNVibes want report on that too?".

This media house however spoke to a number of persons close to the school, including a parent, who stated that the Principal had been complaining to employees of the Ministry of Public Works for months about the sewer issue.

While the parent could not state directly what the issue is, they have however noted that a stench has been building up but at first they thought that "a rat had died in the area".

SKNVibes noted that the stench could clearly be picked up from the entrance of the institution.

While there, members of Public Works did arrive and looked at sewer.

The sewer is located near the school's entrance just below the Principal's office and a few feet away from a stand pipe that persons said has been turned off for some time.
