Icons of Soul in NYC To Honor Jamaican/Caribbean Music Industry Stalwarts

    New York: The 12th staging of Icons of Soul, which takes place on June 7 at the Rochdale Village Community Center in Jamaica, Queens, New York will see Stone Love’s selectors Winston ‘Wee Pow’ Powell and Rory; Mighty Crown from Japan and DJ Roy from Road International being recognised for their contribution to the Jamaican music/sound system industry. They will receive the Icons of Soul Sound System Ambassador Award.

     

    “These sound system stalwarts have paid their dues to the industry and made their mark. It is only fitting that we recognise their contributions” said event promoter Mikey Sterling. 
     
     Also to be honored are Guyanese DJ Tony Samuels and Jamaican DJ Glamour Wayne who will also be recognised for their contribution to the music. 
     
    Stone Love, which celebrated 41 years in the business last year has done it with class and a whole lot of supremacy in the sound system arena. They have withstood the test of time and still keep going. 
     
    Mighty Crown came into the competitive industry and has quickly built up an internatonal fan base while New York based Road International has keep the Jamaican music scene alive in the tri State for many years and remain in demand at the major events in the USA & the Caribbean.
     
    Tony Samuels, who hails from Guyana, is the most sought after DJ from the region and has a rich musical heritage in his homeland Guyana. Glamour Wayne who is known from the popular sound system Gemini Disc, has become Jamaica’s most versatile Dj and is Internationally known for his creative DJ skills. 
     
    Over the years the annual Icons of Soul has built up a loyal following. The 12th will be at the Rochdale Village Community Center 169-65 137 Ave. Queens NY 11434. Doors are open at 9pm with dinner and dancing is the order of the day.
