Curtains Rise On Drama Festival Tomorrow

Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 19, 2014 (SKNIS): Portrayals of love, anger and a number of social issues affecting young people will take center stage on Thursday (May 22) when the Ministry of Education revives the Primary School’s Drama Festival.

Student actors from the Dr. William Connor, Irish Town, Dean Glasford and host Tucker Clarke schools will participate in the event scheduled for 4 p.m.

Moses Byron, a drama teacher based at the Ministry of Education, indicated that this medium was a good way to highlight challenges facing the youth population.

“We have a lot of issues that affect our youth,” he stated. “Using social issues will enable the other children to see themselves, maybe in a dangerous position and what we dramatize may be able to help them to pull themselves together to get more value out of life.”

He encouraged residents to go out and witness the portrayals which he described as entertaining.

“People should come out to see the children display their talent and to support them because they need it,” Byron stated, noting that they found a positive avenue to express themselves productively. “They need the encouragement and the support as they develop into possible actors and actresses in the future.”

St. Kitts-Nevis Finance Company (FINCO) is the primary partner in this initiative. Other sponsors include Carib Brewery, Scotia Bank, Forum Deco, and Triumph Duty.
