Pledges commitment to new government
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DELIVERING a speech in which he pledged his commitment to the recently-installed Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP)-led government, St. Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said he is inspired by the results of that country’s Elections.
Only last week voters on that twin-island Federation took to the polls and spoke loudly, clearly and overwhelmingly in electing the ABLP which, in a landslide victory, won 14 of the 17 seats.
Yesterday (Jun. 18), PM Douglas delivered an address at the Inauguration Ceremony for Prime Minister Gaston Browne and his Cabinet.
In offering congratulations to PM Browne and his Cabinet colleagues, Dr. Douglas described their victory as compelling and said he is motivated for a similar result when the next General Elections in St. Kitts-Nevis are held.
“Today, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party – which I am honoured to lead – is the sister organisation of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party. And I congratulate Prime Minister Browne, his Cabinet and the party on having secured such a compelling victory.
“You have given me the inspiration, you have given my party, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, the inspiration for a similar massive defeat whenever we call our elections very shortly in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
PM Douglas pledged to PM Browne that he could be depended upon for support and both of them could work in advancing the causes of St. Kitts-Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
“And I, as Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, am committed to working with him and his government both within CARICOM as well as on a bilateral basis to advance the interest of our two nations and indeed to advance the interest of our region. I say to Prime Minister Gaston Browne, St. Kitts and Nevis - the government of which I am leading - we stand ready to receive a delegation from you here so that we can show you how we are doing it and you then will do it better than us.
“I say to you, finally, that you and your esteemed government can depend upon me for support and for exchange of ideas that will move forward not only the progressive agenda for the people of Antigua and Barbuda, but the agenda of the Caribbean region.”
