King Meeko, Delly Ranks ready to kick-start Music Fest...

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IN just two days the 18th annual St. Kitts Music Festival will kick off with what is expected to be a power-packed evening chock full of Soca entertainment and hype.

The main act for the ‘Jump Up Night’ (Thursday, June 27) is the Soca king, Machel Montano, who is no stranger to the St. Kitts Music Festival’s stage.

Sharing that stage would be local calypsonian and winner of multiple Culturama King crowns, King Meeko, and his nephew Delly Ranks, both out of Nevis.

The ‘We love we Festival’ duo has to be very innovative in the presentation of that song because they have a limited time to enthuse and whet the appetite of the audience.

A confident King Meeko told SKNVibes today (June 24) that they are up for the challenge and their fans would get what they expect, which is a great performance.

“The challenge is packing as much entertainment into that one song. We have years of performance experience so we will get it done.

“We are usually good performers, so we are going to be as energetic as we can. We have one or two other people who are going to be on stage with us.”

‘We love we Festival’ - performed by Delly Ranks and King Meeko and backed by the Kore Band - won them the Groovy Soca Monarch title last year. And when asked if that will be the only song they would be performing, Meeko said that might be the case because of time constraints.

“We will be performing just the one song because we were told that there are a lot of different acts and that they are looking at the time. So we are hoping that people could be there in time to see us onstage and to just do their thing in the audience.

“...The Music Festival is a major, major function and the performance has to be up there; so we will give it our best shot...”

King Meeko informed this publication that this is his third appearance on the Music Festival stage and, while Delly Ranks had previously graced it with the Kore Band, this is the first time that he would be appearing in a position of prominence.

“Delly is a newcomer and we are trying to push him also, and I think it is a good thing that we did the song together,” Meeko expressed.

After their performance on Thursday, the duo will be preparing to travel to St. John’s where - according to Meeko - they would be performing at a July 4 event.
