BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE 18th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival is set to get underway on Thursday (Jun. 26) and thousands of locals are expected to be adorned in some of the latest fashion trends. But how have local clothing businesses benefitted from the increase in shopping?

Some business establishments in downtown Basseterre were last week interviewed by this publication to get an idea if their sales were increase for the upcoming St. Kitts Music Festival.

Speaking with Marva Tyson of Fashion 2020 on Fort Street, she indicated that there is excitement and expectation and disclosed that the turnover so far is much better than normal, which she credited to the line-up of the Music Festival.

Tyson also stated that she expects sales to further increase further this week, even more so on Wednesday when she gets some new arrivals.

SKNVibes also spoke to the Manager of Shoe Locker on Fort Street, who indicated that sales thus far was normal leading up to the Festival and refused to answer additional questions.

This publication also spoke to Blondell of Blondell’s Fashion, who said that nothing was “popping” as yet and that she was busy with organising her new commodities in anticipation of big sales this week.

With the Festival starting on Thursday, she expects an increase in sales because “Kittitians are normally late shoppers”.

A clothes vendor on Cayon Street stated that she had experienced a significant increase and is expecting even larger sales later this week when the Festival actually begins.

Gopal Ashvani of the Sports Center and Polo Company told SKNVibes that sales were not on the rise but he expects to have big turnovers this week, due to the fact that it would be the payday week for government workers.

Vik of the Sports Zone on Central Street outlined to SKNVibes that he has seen some rather slow increases for the Music Festival, but he is confident that their tactics of supply to their customers’ demand would result in sales increase leading up to the Music Festival.

The 18th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival is set to kick off from Thursday (Jun 26) and will run until Saturday (Jun. 28).
