President Bridgewater attends OECS Athletics Congress (OAC)

By: SKNOC, Press Release

9th July, 2014  --  President Bridgewater (of the ANOCES and the SKNOC) was invited to address the meeting of the OECS Athletic Congress (OAC) on the morning of Sunday 6th July, 2014. Following his chairing of the 2014 edition of Association of National Olympic Committee of the OECS (ANOCES) General Assembly on Saturday 5th July, at Marriott Hotel Resort and Casino.

The OAC is a body which comprises all the National Track and Field (T&F) Associations of the OECS sub-region. The President of this body is Mr Glenville Jeffers/President of the SKNAAA.

In his address, the ANOCES President expressed appreciation to the OAC representative for their “interest, enthusiasm and commitment” as volunteers over the years, and, specifically, for their support of this year’s staging of the OECS Track and Field Championships.

President Bridgewater pledged the commitment of the ANOCES and the SKNOC to work in a harmonious relationship with the OAC to ensure the continuous, annual staging of the OECS Track and Field Championships. He challenged the OAC to work on “refining the definition of those relationships” between itself and the ANOCES and expressed the view that due consideration will have to be given to the “issues of ownership, structure, roles and responsibilities”.

In short, President Bridgewater reassured the OAC of ANOCES’ acknowledgement, appreciation of, and respect for, “the added value that the OAC membership can bring to the table”. As such, President Bridgewater stated that he “welcomes, encourages and supports all meaningful efforts to consolidate this premier sub-regional Track and Field Championships which must be capable of attracting the elite athletes of the sub-region whilst simultaneously providing the environment for sub-regional officials and administrators to enhance their capacities and competencies”.
