US govt distances itself from changes in St.Kitts-Nevis Passports

Mark Bysfield
By: Team UNITY, Press Release (TUCOM)

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 17th   2014 (TUCOM)  --  The decision by the Dr. Denzil Douglas administration to remove the Place of Birth from St.Kitts-Nevis Passports was not at the request of the US Government as stated by the SKN Government. This was made pelucidly clear in a statement issued by Consul General at the US Embassy Mark Bysfield.

Bysfield  distanced the US Government from the statements made by the SKN Government. He stated “ The United States has not requested any changes to passports issued by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Hon. Bysfield in his Press Statement went on state that the US Government advised the Dr. Douglas led government that the removal of the Place of Birth will adversely affect St.Kitts-Nevis Citizens in getting Visas to travel to the US.

Consul Bysfield said “The U.S. government notified the St. Kitts and Nevis government that versions of the St. Kitts and Nevis passport that lack key elements of biographic data have caused the U.S. government to require additional documentation from applicants for U.S. visas to evaluate their eligibility. Because of the missing biographic data, holders of St. Kitts and Nevis passports who apply for U.S. visas have experienced delays in processing times.”

The startling revelation by the US Embassy and Consul General Bysfield has caused much outrage to citizens in St.Kitts-Nevis. The Prime Minister’s mishandling of the Citizenship by Investment Programme is causing undue attention and scrutiny to our citizens who seek Visas by the thousands to the US . This has now been confirmed by the US Government.

Leader of the powerful St.Kitts-Nevis Opposition Tri-Party alliance Team UNITY Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris in response to the release issued by the US Embassy stated “""This is a serious indictment against the illegitimate and outmoded Douglas regime. The disgraceful government has allowed our citizenship programme to be held captive by illicit actors much to the concern of the US and other world governments.

Its mismanagement of the citizenship programme has scandalized the country. An independent overhaul of the citizenship programme is clearly required to overcome avarice , greed and corruption for which the St Kitts programme is now infamous. We need transparency and we in Team Unity will restore the integrity of the citizenship programme and restore the good name of our country."
    .”
Team Unity has committed to lead a transparent government that will be accountable to the people.

“We will subject the citizenship programme to Parliamentary oversight, bring public monies into the Treasury and end the intransparent practices and improprieties at the Slush Fund nick named SIDF,” said the popular and dynamic Dr. Harris

Harris concluded by saying “To get a transparent and accountable Citizenship by Investment Programme, we need a change of government, in St. Kitts and Nevis.
