Mother calls on public to vote him in

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - YOUNG footballer Ronaldo Belgrove is calling on the public in St. Kitts and Nevis to vote him in as one of the Wild-card entries to head off to Barbados to participate in the Digicel KickStart Academy.

After two days of on-field training and a demonstration match, Tyquan Terell, Jamihk Gumbs and Josiah Imo were individually chosen by the Chelsea Football Club coaches to represent the Federation at the annual Digicel KickStart Academy.

Belgrove was also chosen as a Wild Card entry for the KickStart Academy where they were required to make a promotional video, encouraging fans to vote for them and the top three  with the most votes would move on to the Academy later this year.

In an interview with SKNVibes Belgrove’s mother explained why the public should vote for her son.

“I think people should vote for him because of his passion and to me, it is a good opportunity for him to get some training in the football arena. It is conducted by the Chelsea Club out of England so this would be a good opportunity for him to get the training and advance his game.”

She also gave background into her son’s playing career.

“He is 15-years-old. He played for the U-17 National Team. He has been playing from around the age of six or seven. He started in the grassroots programme and currently plays for his school, Basseterre High School. He also plays for the Newtown Junior team.

“It is his dream to become a professional footballer.”

Some of the Belgrove’s biggest achievements include: most goals in the Primary Football competition as well as being the youngest player to play in the 2013 East Basseterre Football League.

His football idols are two of the most famous footballers ever, both of whom are his namesakes. They are the Portuguese Christiano Ronaldo and the former Brazillian striker Ronaldo.

When asked what she wishes her son to achieve from the sport, the proud mother said, “Success, and to mould him overall as an individual and be successful in every area.”

Belgrove is currently third in the voting process which is expected to go on for another seven days.

Wild-card entrants were selected from participating Clinics across the Caribbean for having the fastest overall speed as measured by speed and agility testing, with and without a football.

Digicel has launched a Facebook competition to fill the last three spots at the Digicel KickStart Academy in Barbados in partnership with Chelsea Football Club.
