BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE indomitable Kim Collins has proven once again that he is one of the top sprinters of all time, and only yesterday (Jul. 20) he dashed to a new 100m national record and placed second at the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games, London.

Michael Rodgers of the United States of America won the race in 9.91 seconds, third place went to Jamaican Nesta Carter who finished with a 10-second time.

Collins set a new record of 9.96 seconds which bettered the previous recorded of 9.97 which he ran in 2013.

Following the race, Collins told British Athletics TV that his plan was just to run a good race and as it turns out, he was successful in setting a new national record.

“Today the race was not as I thought it would be because I have not been running the time that I want. I wanted to execute the race, I did that and there goes the national record again.”

He also spoke of the joy he has when competing in London and the energy he gleans from the crowd.

“I think it does. I have been coming here for so many years and I think the crowd here appreciates me and loves me and not just being on the multicultural city, but a city that loves track and field and loves sports for many generations. So coming here it is a major achievement for me because I am home…”
