Police investigate burglaries at Mattingley

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - JUST hours after a robbery was executed at a Chinese restaurant in the heart of Basseterre, an act of attempted sexual assault and a robbery took place in the Mattingley Heights area.

SKNVibes understands that the incidents occurred sometime during the early morning hours of Sunday (Jul, 20) and the first was the attempted assault.

Information reaching this media house suggests that although an attack was launched on the female victim, she was able to fight off her attacker(s).

And sometime between 3:00a.m. and 3:45a.m., another home in that area was broken into and items removed from the premises.

SKNVibes has learnt that the screen which covered a window in the bedroom of the dwelling space was cut open and two high-end cellular telephones which were charging close to the window, were lifted from the premises.

Inspector Lyndon David - Public Relations Officer for the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force - told SKNVibes the K9 Unit, members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and other police officers responded to the reports.

He added that the police are “pursuing these investigations seriously and we would like that persons in the neighbourhood to be vigilant and report suspicious persons and suspicious activities by calling 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477”.

He suggested that persons in the Mattingley area ensure that their homes are properly secured and also that they look out for the interests of each other.

“The police would like at this time to encourage persons to look for each other by forming community watch groups. And that can be done by contacting me (6654757) or other senior officer.”

The PRO assured that “a number of leads in certain aspects” of both cases are being pursued.
