The contest started promptly at 5.30 pm as planned. Opening remarks were offered by Noah G. Mills, Managing Director of SEN Consulting, who noted that Gastronomy Nevis will see Cooking, Grilling, Baking, and other such contests, along with Beer, Wine and Rum Festivals being held in Nevis.
Mrs. Hope Merchant, General Manager of Riviere House Restaurant, Bar, Lounge, and Conference Centre then enthusiastically advised all that Bartending is an art form that needs to be nurtured and that the management and staff of Riviere House were honoured to be part of the process. Mr. Carl Williams, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism then congratulated the participants and noted that the Ministry would contribute participating trophies for the competition.
The participants then competed in 5 segments, namely, speed pouring, rum mixers, non-alcoholic mixers, blended cocktails, and their signature drink.
In the end, Kendie Brown-Williams, who works at Mangoes, Four Seasons, was declared the winner with 350 pts. Monique Washington placed 2nd with 298. Third place went to Mervan France with 276.5 pts, and 4th place was Winston Didder, with 227.5 pts, both of whom work at Nisbett’s Inn & Plantation.
First place won EC $1, 000, 2nd place EC $600, and 3rd place $400. The cash prizes and investments for the competition were contributed by SEN Consulting and Riviere House. 4th place won a Dinner for 2 at Riviere House sponsored by Island Tyres and Hardware. Eldorado Rum was also another key partner in the venture.
