BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - VETERAN sprinter Kim Collins is eyeing the Rio Olympics in 2016 as the final competition before he hangs up his tracks and retire from the sport of track and field.

“The possibility can exist once I can compete under the Olympic flag. That is the only way I see. If I am able to get that status. I think that would be a great time to say this is it time to move on”, Collins stated in an interview with Sportsmax Zone on Wednesday (Jul. 23).

Collins – who has been competing in local and international competitions for decades - explained what has been his motivation over the years and why he stood the test of time.

“It is a lot of love definitely…when I wanted to quit my wife said ‘I know how to fix you, I got the recipe for you’.

“Each time you want to quit things get better…as you about to give up and go out and just run your race here comes a personal best. There is a lot in side, it is just about being relaxed by staying focused and that patience must be there.”

In 2003, Collins was crowned World Champion after winning the 100m in 10.07 seconds, and he followed up by copping the bronze medal in both the 100m and 4X100m Relay in 2011.

He also competed at six World Championships and four Olympic Games.

Collins has five World Championship medals which includes four bronze and one gold which were won between 2001 and 2011. He is also the 2001 Commonwealth Games Champion.
