Monkey Hill woman on 17 theft-related charges

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AN Upper Monkey Hill young woman faces 17 charges of embezzlement, theft and forgery and according to police the alleged offences took place over the last five years.

     

    The police issued a press release yesterday (Jul. 25) informing that Serene Phillip was formally arrested and charged with six counts of embezzlement, which were believed to have been committed between January 1, 2009 and June 16, 2014; six counts of larceny by servant, which were believed to have been committed during the same period; three counts of forgery, allegedly committed between January 1, 2011 and June 16, 2014 and one count of demanding money on forged instrument allegedly committed between January 1, 2014 and June 16, 2014. 

     

    The release indicates that the alleged offences were committed at SOL Ec Ltd, St. Kitts. SKNVibes understands that the young woman was employed there as an accounts clerk.

     

    It is alleged that the young woman may have forged the manager’s signature on cheques which she made payable to herself and or her relatives.

     

    Earlier this month, Phillip was also charged with one count of larceny by servant which the police claim was committed between August 20 and 21, 2013. This media house understands that this and the other charges are related.

     

    While SOL’s management declined comment when contacted by this media house, sources have indicated that Phillip is accused of stealing in excess of $500,000.

     

    Yesterday’s release also informed that her mother, Angelina Phillip – also a resident of Upper Monkey Hill – was charged with the offence of receiving and the police allege that that offence occurred sometime between January , 2009 and January 31, 2011 at Basseterre.

     

    This publication understands that another individual may have been charged in relation to this case.
