BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING a keenly-contested competition held at part of the Culturama 40 Festival, two Kittitians - Shalloyda Hewlett and Alphonso Henry - were crowned the Miss Culture Swimsuit and the Mr. Kool 2014 winners, respectively.

Last evening (Jul. 29) at the Cultural Complex – before a full house – five young ladies participated in the Miss Culture Swimsuit Competition and five young men vied for the Mr. Koon 2014/2015 crown.

All 10 contestants appeared in an alluring fanfare following which the ladies appeared in three judged segments – One Piece Swimwear, Two Piece Swimwear and Creative Swimwear – and the men appeared the Beach Wear, Talent, GQ Wear and Interview segments.

Capturing the Most Photogenic Award as well as the Best GQ Wear and Best Beach Wear, Henry was crowned Mr. Kool 2014.

Shonroy Caesar – who won the Interview and Talent segments - took the First Runner Up spot while the Second Runner Up spot went to Rohan Jeffers.

Lenroy Lescott and Kisean Warner were not as successful during the competition although the latter won the Mr. Kool People’s Choice Award.

Winner of the Miss Culture Swimsuit Competition Hewlett was adjudged to have displayed the Best Two Piece Swimwear and she was tied with Tysha Maynard for the Best One Piece Swimwear award.

Best Creative Swimwear winner Patricia Clarke walked away from the competition with the First Runner Up position while Maynard was the Second Runner Up. Third and Fourth Runners Up were Tiffany Richards and Marlencia Hanley respectively.

The Miss Photogenic award went to Hewlett however Maynard won the People’s Choice Award.

Speaking with SKNVibes – Henry said he was often overwhelmed with the pressures of competing but got encouragement from the members of his team to persevere. Thus he accredits his win to his team.

“I think it was due to the fact that I had a really hard-working team that supported me throughout the journey. And there were times when I wanted to give up but they encouraged me to go forward and push myself and push the boundaries. I thank them for all their help and support.”

Henry says he has hopes of competing in the upcoming Mr. Caribbean Competition after which he intends on pursuing a career in dance.

Miss Culture Swimsuit 2014 Hewlett also spoke to SKNVibes following her win and explained that she entered the pageant because she wanted to be part of the Culturama 40 festivities. Additionally, she said she was influenced to enter the competition by one of the contestants of the National Carnival Queen Pageant 2012 – a competition in which she participated.

She said her confidence level entering the pageant was “normal” but it grew over time and she is elated with her accomplishment.

“I think there are more pageants in my future…”

She too thanked her team for their invaluable assistance and their contribution to her win.
