BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A recruitment call was made by Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn last evening (Jul. 30) for young men of the Federation to apply to become members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF).

Commissioner Walwyn was one of the featured speakers at the government’s 'Conversation for Progress' town hall meeting when he made the call. The event was held at the St. Peter’s Community Centre.

In years past, the Police Force has resorted to recruiting individuals from the region to join the organisation because of lack of local response. But according to Walwyn, priority is now being given to locals.

He said some 10 slots are available for the September 2014 course.

“The Police Force, our Police Force, we are recruiting…I’m looking for young men. We want to give the jobs to our people from the Federation; we believe that they would have a vested interest in this Federation. So if you have a child that wants to be a police officer that can pass a background and a drug test, we are willing to listen to your child and we are willing to put them through the process and if they will qualify, they can be in the next academy which we plan to start in September.”

The Commissioner explained that he daily receives emails and messages via social media from individuals overseas who are expressing interest in joining the RSCNPF. He commented that should he give consideration to these individuals, there would not be a recruitment problem.

“… We in St. Kitts don’t appreciate our police as much as we should… Every day I get emails and I get Facebook messages from people outside this country who are wanting to be police officers here in this Federation. I even got them as far as England…

“They are trying to come to St. Kitts and we know the money is not a lot here but we pay a lot more than some of these Caribbean islands. And I can tell you if I were to say yes to some of these experienced officers from north of us and south of us, I wouldn’t have a recruitment problem. But this government has decided that we should make a propriety of offering the jobs to our local people first and then we move on…”

Applicants can complete and submit a letter of application addressed to the Force Personnel Officer and deliver it at the Basseterre Police Headquarters.

SKNVibes understands that the RSCNPF has a membership of close to 400.
