The SKNOC to participate in the Pan American Sports Festival

    BASSETERRE St. Kitts,13th August, 2014 -- Following the St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee’s (SKNOC) successful participation in the July 23rd to August 3rd, 2014, Glasgow Commonwealth Games, a delegation is presently in Mexico City, Mexico, participating in the first Pan American Sports Festival over the period August 10th to 17th, 2014.

     

    This Festival, an event of the Pan American Sports Organsiation (PASO), is held in collaboration with the Association of Pan American Athletics (APA) and will serve as a qualifying event for the 2015 Pan American Games to be held in Toronto, Canada and also the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Only the top sixteen (16) athletes in their respective events in the Sport of Athletics from within the region have been invited to participate.
     
    The SKNOC’s delegation is led by Head Coach, Lonzo Wilkinson, an IAAF Level 5 Coach and Lecturer. The remaining members of the delegation include: Ms Marecia Pemberton and Mr Jason Rogers in the 100m event and Mr Brijesh Lawrence in the 200m event.
    The entire SKNOC Executive wishes the athletes the very best in their efforts to qualify for the 2015 Pan Am Games and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
     
    In related SKNOC news, a delegation of three (3) athletes and three (3) team officials left the Federation on Sunday 10th August, 2014, for Nanjing, China to participate in the 2nd edition of the Youth Olympic Games. The focus of these Games is less about sport and more about culture and education. The Games will be used as an avenue for the world's children to come together and develop relationships and in turn carry the experience to their home countries and create a domino effect among their peers.
     
    The National Representative team comprises of Chef de Mission, Mr Iston Williams, Mr Urban Freeman - Table Tennis Coach; Mr Llewelyn Pyke - Athletics Coach. The athletes are Mr T’Anje Johnson - Table Tennis and Mr Akeem Chumney and Ms Kristal Liburd in the sport of Athletics.
