Amazon Warriors smash Tallawahs to march in Final

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A poor batting display from the Jamaica Tallawahs led to the downfall of the 2013 Caribbean Premier League as the Guyana Amazon Warriors avenged the last year finals defeat on Thursday (Aug. 14).

After being asked to bat first the Tallawahs struggled for the entire 20 overs despite a 50 run partnership off 10 overs from openers Chris Gayle and Chadwick Walton.

However when that partnership was broken the Tallawahs then lost Voges in quick order to be restricted to 72-3 in the 14th over.

That then brought Nkrumer Bonner and Andre Russell who looked threatening to the Amazon Warriors bowlers. Russell however could not repeat his heroics from the previous night as a comical run out led to his demise and Bonner was dismissed the very next ball playing a bad shot to Krishmar Santokie.

However a quick 17 from nine balls from Jerome Taylor carried the Tallawahs total to a measly 134-6 from their 20 overs.

Chasing the modest total of 135 the Amazon Warriors openers Lendl Simmons and Martin Guptill carried their team to their target and never looked endangered by the Tallawahs attack.

Both openers got to the half centuries and completed a comprehensive victory for the Amazon Warriors.

Tallawahs coach, Mickey Arthur, highlighted poor batting since arriving in St. Kitts as his team’s downfall.

“Our batting has been very disappointing since we arrived in St. Kitts, 180 was the minimum total we needed to set them tonight and again we were not able to give our strong bowling attack enough runs to defend. The four teams that made the final week of the competition are very close in terms of ability and any one of them could beat the other on their day.”

Amazon Warriors coach Dinesh Ramdin cited the toss as the crucial point in the victory.

“It was a very important toss to win today as the pitch looked like it would be a bit slow to begin with and hard for the batsmen to get the ball away. Narine then bowled very well in the middle overs and we were able to restrict them to below 140.”
