Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 18, 2014 (SKNIS)   --  Various cultural aspects of St. Kitts and Nevis were showcased to the world during the Limacol Caribbean Premier league (CPL) tournament, which was also an attractive ground for families.

The federation secured the privilege of hosting the semi-finals and finals, an event, which is estimated to have attracted a global viewership of 45 million. On August 16, thousands filled the seats, mounds and stands of the Warner Park Cricket Stadium to watch the final face-off between the Barbados Tridents and Guyana Amazon Warriors. Many of the spectators had flown in from neighboring Caribbean islands and around the world.

During the 9 matches that were played in St. Kitts, patrons were treated to a halftime parade around the pitch, consisting of local iron and string bands, masqueraders, moko jumbies and dancing groups who paraded to popular local carnival music. The 44x22 foot jumbotron was also used to display adverts from the St. Kitts Tourism Authority and stunning views from around the island.

The matches were also an ideal event for families as many patrons were seen camped out on blankets on the mound with their children, who were often clad in the colours of their family’s team. In particular, the large Guyanese community was evident as the crowd was awash in a sea of yellow and green, the team colours of the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

At the end of the tournament, the Barbados Tridents walked away with an 8-run victory over Guyana, whose team member, Lendl Simmons received the coveted title of Man of the Tournament.
