August 20th, 2014  --  After 30 plus years the Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant will see a new face at the helm. Mr Antonio Maynard, the longtime Chairperson and Executive Producer has stepped down. Stepping up is Mrs Akilah Byron-Nisbett who has been named the new Chairperson and Executive Producer of what is recognized as the most Prestigious Pageant of it’s kind in the world and easily the most prestigious in the Caribbean.

Mrs. Byron-Nisbitt has had over 15 years experience as a member of the pageants organizing committee where she served tirelessly in various positions beginning as an Usher then moving up the ranks to Judges assistant, Judges  Coordinator, General Secretary then to her most recent post as Contestants and Activities Director.

Mr. Maynard commented on the transition “The Pageant prides itself as one of the most dynamic and progressive pageants in the world. We have been pioneers in the pageant industry for as long as we have been in existence for the last 35 years. Our ability to remain and continue to be pioneers is largely due to our consistent pursuit of excellence and constant engagement of new initiatives, personnel and innovations. My stepping down falls within that practice which has served us well. As the Pageant Celebrates its 35th year it is time for a fresh face with new energies and ideas.”

A senior member of the committee assured their support of Byron-Nesbit  as Chairperson.

“Akilah has been an integral part of the organizing committee over the last 15 years and her passion, dedication and hardwork has earned her the respect of the committee. Those characteristics will guarantee that Mrs. Byron-Nisbett will have the absolute support of the committee,” said Committee Member and Pageant Public Relations, Marketing and Guest Artists Director Wallis Wilkin.

Apart from organizing this event, the Haynes Smith organization continues to make donations, and other service oriented contribution to the village community in particular.

The Pageant has grown exponentially over the years into the most prestigious pageant in the entire Caribbean, and continues to attract participants from close to 20 countries annually. It is also one of the most anticipated events for the St.Kitts-Nevis National Carnival calendar, and Christmas season.
