BASSETERRE St. Kitts, August 20th, 2014  --  The new academic year will see the introduction of new CAPE courses at the CFBC. CAPE Entrepreneurship and CAPE Performing Arts will be offered to Students of the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies (ASGS) for the very first time. A launch has been planned to which all interested persons are invited.  It will be held at the Main Campus at 2 pm on Thursday August 21st.

CAPE ENTREPRENEURSHIP seeks to empower students by fostering the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to achieve entrepreneurial success in a variety of settings. It places emphasis on the individual’s acumen to realize opportunity, assess risk, and transform innovative ideas into viable, sustainable ventures. Thus, the programme of study is focused on harnessing the creativity and innovation needed to transform ideas into ventures that create value and wealth.

It therefore addresses fundamentals of entrepreneurial behaviour and thinking, and engages students in practical experiences through idea generation, opportunity identification, and implementing, managing and harvesting a venture. It also acquaints students with the essentials of business ownership, legal and regulatory frameworks, market research, feasibility analysis and the development of a business model.

The CAPE PERFORMING ARTS programme of study is designed to encourage awareness of the concepts and principles that guide the responsible development of the diverse Caribbean artistic community towards successful integration into the world of work, new artistic expressions and preservation of existing art forms. The syllabus comprises Units on Business for the Arts, Cinematic Arts, Dance, Drama, and Music. It focuses primarily on product development and management, the histories of the various performing arts, performance and production as well as techniques and skills that encourage and enhance an appreciation for the cultural diversity of the region.

Acquired techniques and skills in financing, marketing, research, design, application of artistic as well as technical theories, production and performance will provide students with the informed knowledge base needed to encourage growth in all spheres of artistic endeavour as well as expose them to the range of possibilities with regard to varied career choices and further education and training. The skills and knowledge acquired may be further developed and employed in professions including: cultural entrepreneur, events manager, art producer, booking agent, facilities manager, talent manager and visual or performing artist.  The course will be available to new and returning students.

Additionally, the successfully piloted CAPE DIGITAL MEDIA course, will be an option open to all students. The Digital Media area of study covers topics such as the theory and history of digital media, the impact of digital media on society, digital media business and entrepreneurial models, elements and principles of digital design and manipulative or practical skills. The course will facilitate the development of learning and problem-solving skills, foster creativity, encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, and inculcate a sense of value in students for their own work and respect and regard for the work of others.

The syllabus will also help students to develop intellectually and seeks to refine their critical thinking skills and judgments by exposing them to a variety of experiences in digital media conceptualisation, design and development. It also fosters interest and enjoyment in the practical application, production and consumption of digital media and seeks to develop competent practitioners by increasing the cadre of digital media practitioners such as content creators, animators, web developers, graphic artists and mobile app developers, and by raising the standard of digital media production across industry. CAPE Digital Media is the first CFBC course facilitated online.

The CFBC hopes to introduce CAPE PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS in 2015.
