BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE public of St. Kitts and Nevis got a preview of the Senior Men’s National Football Team on Friday (Aug 29) when some members of that team took to the streets of Basseterre in a parade ahead of the big kick off of the 2014 Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Men’s Caribbean Cup to be staged at Warner Park on Wednesday on (Sept. 3).

The senior team was also joined by a few members of the National Female squad that recently returned from the inaugural CFU women’s tournament and the National U-20 who are also preparing to take part in a tournament in a few weeks’ time.

Sporting their red National jerseys, the team was given the opportunity to help promote the event and round up support for the three days of action.

At a press conference on August 20, Head Coach Geoffrey Hazel revealed that the team had been in training for two months and was expected to name a final 20-man squad in the near future.

“We started preparation some eight weeks ago following the completion of the Premier League. Currently we have 25 local-based players that are a part of the squad. In a matter of one week we will be able to cut the squad down 20 players. We expect to have our overseas-based players joining us in a week’s time.

“Preparations have been going well so far and we have been working alongside the under 20s as they have a tournament in a matter of weeks.”

It was also expected that up to 10 oversees based nationals would be named in the final squad and four were present on Friday as part of the promotional parade. The others are anticipated to arrive for final preparations leading up to the game.

Team St. Kitts and Nevis will host St. Lucia, Dominica and Guyana on September 3, 5, 7 as all make an effort to move on to the 2014 CFU Caribbean Cup final round.

The first match day is September 3 and is expected to see Guyana facing Dominica and St Kitts and Nevis taking on St Lucia.
