BHS WILL REOPEN ITS DOORS ON MONDAY

SKNIS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 29, 2014 (SKNIS): With the recommendations of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in place, staff and students of the Basseterre High School (BHS) can look forward to the school reopening its doors on Monday.

During a meeting held on August 28 for parents and teachers, Minister of Education the Hon. Nigel Carty stated that there has been significant progress in increasing communication and ensuring the safety of staff and students. He noted that this has come “largely as a result of some key recommendations which were made by both CARPHA and CARIRI (Caribbean Industrial Research Institute).”

The Minister noted that those recommendations enabled all stakeholders to work together to ensure that the school was in shape for the new school year and beyond.

“I think germane to their recommendations was the need for us to get our act together in relation to communication and collaboration,” the Education Minister said. “I want to thank them very much for making those recommendations because having made those recommendations, once all stakeholders saw those recommendations, they thought that they were critical in moving the school forward.”

Minister Carty stated that other recommendations which were made through subsequent observations have been “essentially completed.”

“We are at a point where we believe that school should start and we give a commitment to ensure that these works are completed within the next two weeks,” the Minister stated.

The CARPHA recently declared the school in satisfactory condition as all requirements were met.
