Saturday, 30 August 2014. Port-of-Spain. – The United Nations will launch a Caribbean SIDS (Small Island Developing States) photography competition.
The UN Photo Competition for Caribbean SIDS will seek to raise awareness of the UN values in relation to the importance of sustainable development for the Caribbean countries.
UN PHOTO COMPETITION FOR CARIBBEAN SIDS
Contemporary life in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS), linked to Human Rights principles will be the theme of the photo competition.
The competition offers participants a chance to use their creativity to show day-to-day life in the Caribbean, to depict living and working in a Caribbean/Small Island Developing State, linked to Human Rights principles, for example, the right to education, the right to marry and to found a family, the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, in their neighborhood, community, district, city or country.
The competition is open to youth ages 18-24 and to both amateur and professional photographers. The competition will also have a winner of the viewers’ choice award. This award will be for the photo that receives the most ‘likes’ on the contest’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/UNTrinidadandTobago) between the September 1 and the December 1, 2014
The contest will open on September 1, and close 1 December 2014. To be eligible, all photographs must be taken in the Caribbean SIDS within two years of the competition closing date.
To enter the competition, all entrants must submit their pictures to the ILO office before the closing date and time of the contest.
All the materials for the competition, application details and rules will be available at the ILO website for the Caribbean as well as the UN Trinidad and Tobago Facebook page.
