BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WHILE extending condolences to the family and friends of the young girl who was found dead in Nevis this afternoon (Sept. 6), Commissioner of Police (COP) Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn has expressed his views on the “heinous” crime.

The teen – who has been identified as Shante Claxton – was discovered, reportedly by a relative, in or near the bathroom of the St. Thomas Primary School.

“…The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is investigating the heinous death of one of our children. As Commissioner of Police I take it personal when one of our children are hurt. I offer condolences on behalf of the Police Force, myself, and my family to the family of Shante Claxton,” the COP said in a press release issued last evening.

He assured that the “full resources” of the Police Force would be used in bringing the perpetrator to justice “and if needed, I will seek the help of the FBI…”

The Police Force’s commander informed that he has received ‘WhatsApp’ messages from some individuals informing of the name of a suspect and that the police were looking for that individual.

SKNVibes understands that someone was taken into police custody last evening concerning the same incident.

Meanwhile, Acting Premier of Nevis the Hon. Mark Brantley, has also offered condolences to the bereaved family, noting that he is saddened by Claxton’s “tragic death”.

“As a father myself it hurts me deeply and I can only imagine the pain and hurt being experienced by the immediate and extended family. The government will lend the necessary support to the family and friends of Shante and in particular the students of her school, the Charlestown Secondary School, which is scheduled to open on Monday.”

He said the “tragic event violates the sacred values we as a Nevisian society hold dear. Our children are our island's greatest asset. We must at all times and at all cost protect them.”

Brantley’s appeal to the Nevisian community would that it would lend its support to the police during their investigations “to ensure that the family of young Shante obtains swift justice.”
