SCASPA gives back to Local Library

Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts – September 9, 2014 (SCASPA):  Paying tribute to the powerful impact which libraries have on the community, the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority, donated books to the Charles A. Halbert Public Library on International Literacy Day, September 8, 2014.  The books were an assortment of fiction and non-fiction children’s, young adult and adult books, which will prove useful to enrich the local library.

During the handing over ceremony, PRO of SCASPA, Ms. Dentrecia Blanchette stated that the donation was part of SCASPA’s 21st anniversary celebration.

“As an organization, SCASPA aims to enrich the lives of members of community through strong partnerships and creative initiatives. During the month of September we are celebrating 21 years of existence and we thought this was an opportune time to give back and donate books to the local library and forge a unique partnership with the institution. Over the past few weeks, we strategically placed boxes at our ports of entry and members of staff and the general public were encouraged to donate books. We are pleased that persons decided to donate. Some may say that libraries are dying, but we recognize that in spite of the digitization of information, libraries remain a primary institution that promotes literacy; this initiative was a staff effort that symbolizes that we support the library and recognize and appreciate the powerful influence of the library.”

Assistant Librarian, Mrs. Carmen Browne, expressed gratitude for the donation and noted: “On behalf of the management and staff of the Charles A. Halbert Public Library we would like to extend our sincere thanks to SCASPA for donating books to the library. Today is International Literacy Day and we are so appreciative that SCASPA supports literacy. Literacy facilitates access to information and knowledge and we are indeed thankful for the books,” she emphasized.

The Authority will continue its month long community-focused anniversary celebration with a Weather and Climate Change Workshop, Customer Appreciation Day and Beach Cleanup.
