BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A teenager from Mansion has done what few others within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis have; she has given birth to triplets.

Iyanla ‘Briana’ Huggins – 17 – told SKNVibes she gave birth to the girls on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

The proud mother said she leant of her pregnancy in May when she was stricken with chikungunya.

She said she went to the hospital and an ultrasound was done to ensure that all was well, and that was when she not only found out that she was pregnant, but also that she was carrying multiples.

“I was afraid when the doctor told me…I got up off the bed and walked out of the hospital and walked down the road and stood there. My sister and mother came and joined me. My mother told me that I should not be fearful and that she had my back and would help me out.”

At that point, Huggins said, she was three months pregnant and was completely unaware of it because she was still menstruating and her stomach has not grown.

Huggins said her initial thought was, “What is going on? Why did God do this to me? But still, I know that God knows what He is doing”.

On September 4, seven months into their development, the girls were delivered via caesarean section (c-section) and were named Faith, Hope and Charity.

Huggins told this publication that when Faith was born, she weighed two and a half pounds, Hope weighed 1 pound and 15 ounces and Charity weighed two pounds. They were placed in an incubator following their birth.

Information gathered by this media house from the Health Information Unit indicates that the last set of triplets to have been born in St. Kitts was in 1999 and in Nevis was in 2004.
