Press release (SKNIS)

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 10, 2014 (SKNIS): The 31st Anniversary Celebrations of St. Kitts and Nevis will feature not one but two lecture series, one on nationhood and the other on health.

Tonight’s live lecture at the Basseterre High School Auditorium at 8 p.m. forms part of the Prime Minister’s Lecture Series and will be delivered by Honourable Justice Selwyn Walters on aspects of this year’s Independence theme, which is “A Nation on the Move, Celebrating our Progress.

Kittitian by birth, Judge Walters grew up in Newtown and had his primary and secondary education in the Federation before leaving for the Virgin Islands where he began his tertiary education at the College of the Virgin Islands.  Specializing in the field of Law, Judge Walters later relocated to the United States where he made several professional advancements including being appointed United States Law Judge in 2009.  In 2012, he was appointed Chief Judge in Bronx, New York.

The second lecture is the inaugural lecture of the Caribbean Wellness Week Series.  It will be delivered by Dr. Arthur Agatston on Saturday, September 13 at the Marriott Resort from 6 to 9 p.m. on the theme “Predicting and Reversing, Cardiovascular Disease.”  Dr. Agatston is of the fame of the Agatston Score, which is a method of screening for coronary calcium as an indicator of the substance that is considered by experts to be the best single predictor of a future heart attack.

Traditionally, Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas hosted an annual health lecture series, this has now matured into the Caribbean Wellness Week Series.
