Wednesday, September 10, 2014 – Acting Principal of the Elmore Stoutt High School Mrs. Sandy Underhill has concluded that ‘love is the key ingredient’ to exceptional service.

She was at the time giving remarks during the school’s first general assembly this morning.

Mrs. Underhill said she takes her role as the acting principal seriously.

“I am humbled by this opportunity and understand that this job is not about me and my degrees and other accomplishments, but rather it is about the service that I am charged with providing to our students, staff, and the wider community. It is a service that must have at the very core of its foundation, one simple ingredient, and one necessary resource. A resource that doesn’t cost a dime but is invaluable and that ingredient is love,” she said.

Mrs. Underhill encouraged students and educators to find every available opportunity to learn.

“Education for me cannot be limited to the textbook and classroom. It is everywhere and it is in every opportunity. We must understand as educators that learning takes place everywhere and at all times,” she said.

Mrs. Underhill continued, “As educators we must love our profession, we must love our school, we must love our students, and we must love the wider community that we serve. In addition, to love we must believe that all children, no matter their color, class, disposition or learning abilities, deserve an equal opportunity at education and we the administration and staff of ESHS pledge to provide just that.”

Surrounded by the Deputy Principal Mrs. Vanessa Garraway and Assistant Principals Mrs. Donna Clyne Thomas and Mr. Cecil Hodge, Mrs. Underhill revealed the theme for this school’s new year which is, “Service with Excellence”.

She asked all stakeholders in education to work collaboratively to ensure the High School returns to its legacy of Excellence.

The Ministry of Education and Culture supports the work of the Territory’s schools as its commits to Creating a Culture of Excellence.”
