    Monday, September 15, 2014 – The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) will commence the new 2014/2015 Law Year on Wednesday, September 17 with its usual Ceremonial Opening in the form of simultaneous special sittings in all nine Member States and Territories of the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

     

    The proceedings in the Territory of the Virgin Islands will commence with a Church Service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Road Town at 8:00 a.m. followed by a procession of the Judiciary, Magistracy and Bar Association Members from the Seventh Day Adventist Church, pass the Sunday Morning Well on Main Street, and culminate with the inspection of the Guard of Honour by His Excellency the Governor, Mr. John S. Duncan, OBE and Her Ladyship the Honourable Nicola Byer, Resident Judge, at the Supreme Court on Pickering Street. The Special Sitting will immediately follow.
     
    The Chief Justice’s Opening Address, which is considered the main event, will be broadcasted live from Anguilla to the other Member States and Territories of the OECS by Her Ladyship the Honourable Chief Justice, Dame Janice M. Pereira, DBE at 10:00 a.m. As Chief Justice, Her Ladyship is the presiding judge of the ECSC. She manages the affairs of the Supreme Court, the court responsible for interpreting and applying the laws of the various member states of the OECS in all matters brought before that body.
     
    The mission of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court is to serve its Member States by providing access to a system of justice that is accountable, independent and administered by officers in a prompt, fair and efficient manner.
