Saluting Austawaki Coker, 2013 Remarkable Teen of Entrepreneurship and Social Con

Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 15TH 2014 (CUOPM) - When Austawaki left high school in 2010, he decided to open his own mechanic business at the age of 16. A business he was able to maintain while attending the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).

“I realized the need for this trade after seeing the amount of vehicles we have on the island,” he said.

As a young child, Austawaki would fix bicycles and then went on to fixing vehicles. This skill developed as he worked alongside his father. His aspiration in life is to be the best in whatever he does.

Austawaki also does mechanical work with his CFBC professor and for Horsford’s Auto Mechanic Business; he especially enjoys welding.

Austawaki is very concerned about his community. He is a very thoughtful and generous young man.

This is seen by his initiatives at his alma mater, Verchild’s High School. After assessing the situation there he presented financial donations to the school’s annual pageant without being solicited by the school’s administration. He also endeavours to give to persons who he recognizes are in need of assistance.

“They (Verchilds High School) helped to shape me into the person that I am today, I have learned so much there so I have to give back,” he said.

Austawaki also builds coffins at a reduced price for those who are unable to afford the original cost. He is active as a volunteer for the St. Kitts Amateur Radio Society and the National Emergency Management Agency.

He received the Most Improved Student award during his time at high school along with an award in Information Technology.
At the time of this citation in 2013, Austawaki was an 18-year-old graduate of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and received the Remarkable Teen award in the categories of Entrepreneurship and Social Conscience.

In this Pierre Liburd, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Communications Technology and Sports and Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 6, the Hon. Glenn Phillip presents award to Austawaki Coker.

The Opposition members in the National Assembly boycotted the Special Sitting to honour the Remarkable Teens.
