Press Release

September 17, 2014 - Delta Petroleum Caribbean Ltd inked contract with the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) for four years amounting of over 150 Million dollars. The Managing Director, Mr. Vernon Lake and the Regional General Manager, Mr. Bevis Sylvester, signed this contract with BVIEC on Saturday August 30th 2014, one day prior to the expiration of the previous contract.

Delta Petroleum’s Managing Director, Mr. Vernon Lake said that Delta has been in the BVI market since 1984. He noted that during these years Delta has always strived to contribute to the development of BVI. He went on to say that this present contract is important because electricity touches every area of our lives; and that nothing can be done without power.  Lake explained, “The decision made by this Board is an important one, not because we were awarded the contract, but if you compare the prices (you will see)...We are not winning these contracts by luck, you make your own luck in life,”

Meanwhile, Regional General Manager, Sylvester elucidated that the signing on Saturday 30th August was critical because the previous contract was due to expire on the following day, 31st August 2014. He further explicated that going through the previous contract was a very trying experience for him and staff because there were issues that arose that caused Delta to lose money, through no fault of theirs.

Sylvester said that this is the fifth consecutive term with the BVIEC, four of which were 2 year terms. This present contract is for a four year term.

He hastened to say though that he has a good team and the company is ready to execute to the best of its ability.

General Manager of the BVIEC, Mr. Leroy Abraham in delivery his remarks, said that the tender for the contract opened on June 6, 2014. There was an evaluation process which resulted in Delta Petroleum winning the diesel supply contract. He said that pricing influenced the Board’s decision in awarding the contract. He further stated that despite the fact that Delta had won on account of having the lower price they were still asked to make further reductions.
