Government denies permission for Team Unity rally at the Gardens Hardcourt but Whistlestop/Motorcade still on

Press Release

September 18, 2014 - The outgoing illegitimate Dr. Denzil Douglas led regime continues it’s rampant and blatant victimization and trampling of the rights of citizens of the federation. Within hours after the Parliament fiasco which saw an embarrassed Dr. Denzil Douglas abort an emergency sitting of parliament after it was revealed that the premise of the meeting was in fact a bogus one the government in what seems to be a petty retort issued two letters to Team UNITY PAM Candidate Jonel Powell and his Central Basseterre campaign committee regarding their much anticipated weekend event on Saturday.

The first letter was sent by Commissioner of Police CG Walwyn who informed Powell that his request to host a rally featuring the Nu-Vybes Band among other local artistes was essentially granted but only until 7:30pm. He further indicated that the Motorcade/Whistlestop is also granted but he was not allowing the procession to go down Church Street or up Fort Street.

The Second Letter was sent by the Ministry of Sports which informed Powell and organizers that the previously granted permission to have a rally on the Basketball Hardcourt has been withdrawn and thus no permission is being granted to use the facility.

Powell however has indicated that he intends to meet with Commissioner Walwyn as well as the Ministry of Sports to address the issues as he sees it as an unprecedented and unfair and a blatant case of petty politics once again eroding the fabric of our society and democracy.
