Taiwan leaders praise leadership of PM Douglas in 31st Anniversary message

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 18TH 2014 (CUOPM) – Top officials of the Republic of China have extended congratulations to St. Kitts and Nevis on the 31st Anniversary of Independence.

     

    President of the Republic of China, His Excellency Ma Ying-jeou in his message to Governor General, His Excellency Sir Edmund Lawrence said he looks forward to working with His Excellency “in the years ahead to further strengthen the cordial relations between our two countries.”
     
    Taiwan Premier, His Excellency Jiang Yi-huah in extending congratulations to St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said that under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Douglas, “St. Kitts and Nevis and Nevis achieved remarkable progress in such areas as tourism, infrastructure, renewable energy, education, and agriculture and business investment.”
     
    Premier Jiang firmly believes that St. Kitts and Nevis “based on the solid foundation, will continue to go from strength to strength in the years ahead.”
     
    “I would also like to assure you that the Government and People of the Republic of China will continue to work closely with St. Kitts and Nevis on various aspects of national development,” said the Taiwan Premier.
     
    Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency David Y.L. Lin told his St. Kitts and Nevis counterpart, the Hon. Patrice Nisbett that since Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis established diplomatic ties in 1983, a close bilateral relationship has been fostered.
     
    “The Republic of China has been a longstanding partner of St. Kitts and Nevis and our two nations have cooperated on a wide array of development projects. Meanwhile, St. Kitts and Nevis has consistently supported the Republic of China in its efforts to participate in such international organization and mechanisms as specialized agencies of the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the International Civil Aviation Organization, and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. For this, I wish to express my deep appreciation,” said Foreign Minister Lin.
     
    St. Kitts and Nevis became an independent nation on September 19th 1983.
