The Outgoing Douglas Regime Continues to look to TEAM UNITY for Innovation in Bringing Relief to Struggling Families

Press Release (TUCOM)

Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM):- At the Independence 31 Parade the outgoing minority Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas announced the waiver of outstanding and or pre- St Kitts Electricity Company arrears for all SKELEC consumers. This was one of a number of announced policies by the incoming Team Unity government. Many months ago, during a public rally in the first half of this year, The Hon. Dr Timothy Harris made the commitment that his Team Unity Government will waive the arrears of households owing on electricity, at the time of transition of the company into a private corporation, SKELEC.

The illegitimate Prime Minister also announced an increase in the minimum wage from $320.00 to $380.00 per week. Team Unity has long made the point that the minimum wage of $320.00 was grossly inadequate facing a 17% Vat and an excessively high cost of living. However in a subsequent announcement via a press release from the Government Information Service SKNIS just hours later, the new wage amount was announced as $360.00 per week. The illegitimate PM Douglas once again attempted to mislead the public by announcing a higher increase than what was the actual amount, continuing to prove true the words o the Court that proclaimed him a “stranger from the truth”.

The Minority Douglas Regime has now embraced and adopted at least four the Team Unity initiatives which the outgoing Prime minister has sort to implement. Worthy of mention, the others include the assistance programme for college students, and the universal insurance initiative.

In a brief statement on the announcement Team Unity leader Hon. Dr Timothy Harris expressed satisfaction that the SKELEC consumers will get some relief and that the long overdue minimum wage was to be increased, but lamented the obvious lack of innovation and ideas by the Prime minister who seems to be simply copying the enlightened and creative ideas of Team Unity's prosperity agenda. However, this is not the first pre election electricity related announcement that the outgoing PM Douglas has made. In a prior election he announced a $500 credit for consumers. The after that election, a fuel Surcharge and a VAT Tax was added soon after those elections. So Customers while relieved of some burden, may have it replaced with anxiety of what new and greater cost will come if the Douglas Regime stays in office.

Team Unity will be hitting the streets of Basseterre including East, West and Central Basseterre on Saturday with a massive whistle stop and rally starting at 2pm just outside the patsy Allers play field.
