    Tuesday, September 23, 2014 - The Government of the Virgin Islands continues to seek avenues to provide employment opportunities for its citizens.

     

    To this end, the Ministry of Education and Culture in collaboration with the Youth Employment Services (YES) and the business community will host its first job fair in Virgin Gorda on Thursday, September 25 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Catholic Community Centre.

    Representatives of hotels and other establishments in the business community will be on hand to offer jobs in real estate and the tourism industry.

    Participating business include RoseWood Little Dix Bay, Driftwood Resorts-Nail Bay, Leverick Bay Resort & Marina, Oil Nut Bay, Saba Rock Resort, Necker Island and Coldwell Banker Real Estate. In addition, the public sector will be represented by the Department of Human Resources and Labour.

    The Youth Employment Services is Government’s commitment to assist young people faced with barriers to employment.

    In addition to pairing unemployed youth with job opportunities, YES provides instruction in resume’ writing and cover letter preparation. It also conducts personality profiling sessions and teaches interviewing techniques.

    Coordinator of the programme Mr. Albert Wheatley in a recent GIS Report said since its inception YES has placed close to 300 youth in jobs throughout the Virgin Islands.

    Youth of Virgin Gorda are encouraged to come out and take advantage of the job employment opportunity. 

    The Government of the Virgin Islands is committed to enhancing the quality of life of youth by ensuring they are provided with meaningful opportunities to chart their own destiny.
