Press Release

September 25, 2014 - Building Bonds Together for a Better Public Service,” is the theme for Public Service Week this year. Activities commence with a church service at the New Life Baptist Church on Sunday, September 28 beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The week of activities which is held annually, commences on September 28 through to October 4. The activities however will have a different twist where, instead of the normal competitive aspect of the week, there will be a focus on public officers getting together in the spirit of camaraderie and giving back to persons in the community.

New to this year’s week of activities is community service where public officers will make tangible contributions for the betterment of members of the BVI community.  Community service projects will take place on the four main islands.  On Tortola, Anegada and Virgin Gorda, officers will clean the yard, and paint the homes of a senior citizen while picnic benches will be built and placed at Gardner Bay on Jost Van Dyke.

Other activities include: a Softball competition, Employee Feud and a mini fair and Health Walk/Run entitled ‘Public Officers on the M.O.V.E. This activity will be done in collaboration with the M.O.V.E. initiative of the Employee Relations Unit of the Department of Human Resources.  The usual Recognition Ceremony and Retirees’ Dinner will also take place.

The public is encouraged to come out and support public officers during the week. Persons attending the church service are kindly asked to donate a non-perishable food item, which will be distributed to senior citizens whose homes officers will be repairing as part of the community service projects. Non-perishable items can also be dropped off at the Help Desk, which is located in the West Atrium of the Central Administration Building on the Ground Floor.
