BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WEAPONS were discovered at the Charles E. Mills Secondary School yesterday (Sept. 25) when police officers searched the premises and students following the discovery of a threatening message.

SKNVibes understands that written on one of the walls of the boys’ bathroom was a message which indicated that on September 25, 2014, the Principal and Deputy Principal of the school would be dead.

A police press release issued last evening explained that “police officers of division B and the Defence Force and Police K9 Units conducted a search on the school’s premises between 9:45 am and 12:00 pm (yesterday)…”

The publication understands that all classes and students were searched and according to the police communique, four knives, a screwdriver, a small quantity of marijuana and “other items of interest” were discovered and taken into police custody.

The release however doesn’t indicate if the individuals on whom these persons were found, were taken into custody. But it indicated that “the investigation continues and charges will be laid if warranted.”

The release urges parents to communicate with their children about weapons, drugs and the consequences of taking such onto school compounds.

“…Keeping our children and staff safe at school is our priority, the Commissioner said.  Parents and guardians, be advised that this is a very serious offence that can result in charges being filed against your child if found in possession of drugs or weapons. There is zero tolerance towards drugs, guns, and violence in our Federations schools…”

It further indicated that the Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn underscored the importance of the recently-launched TAPS programme and the MAGIC programme as effective tools in discouraging such behaviour.

Meanwhile, questions have been asked about whether or not the security detail would be improved at the school following the incident.
